Highlights

  • From January 2015 to July 2016: 10,852 children (under the age of five) and 12,300 pregnant or nursing mothers were enrolled in the nutrition programme.
    Additionally, 2,995 children in Oecussi under the age of two have received specialized nutritious food to prevent malnutrition, between May to July.

  • Since January 2016, 159 mt of locally-produced Timor Vita, a specialised nutritious food for women, was distributed to all health facilities.

  • Since December 2015, 16,931 children under five, and pregnant and breastfeeding mothers have been tested for malnutrition in a mass-screening in Dili, Covalima and Oecussi.

Operational Updates

  • Since December 2015, WFP’s partners have gone houseto-house to check children and pregnant or breastfeeding mothers for malnutrition, visiting 16,931 households in Dili, Oecussi and Covalima. A total of 1,904 children and 2,431 pregnant or breastfeeding mothers were found to suffer from wasting, a form of malnutrition where a person’s weight is too low for their height. The testing for malnutrition continues in Dili throughout August.

  • As a part of a pilot project, 2,995 children under two years of age have received specialized nutritious food to prevent malnutrition in the municipality of Oecussi, between May and July 2016.

  • WFP’s partner organizations, Alola Foundation and World Vision, have been establishing support groups where mothers and carers can meet and learn about good care practices for babies and young children. Activities with the 30 mother support groups in Covalima, 18 groups in Oecusse and 22 in Dili, continued through August.
