MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — The NCAA Division I men's tennis subcommittee announced on Tuesday the field for the 2024 NCAA Individuals Championship that take place from May 20-25 at Greenwood Tennis Center in Stillwater, Okla.
"It is very exciting for us to earn a singles, doubles and into the team event," said MTSU Head Coach
Jimmy Borendame. "The guys earned this and we hope to do some damage in these events."
Senior
Leo Raquin will represent Middle Tennessee in the singles portion of the NCAA Tournament. The field consists of 64 singles players with 15 automatic bids and 49 at-large from across the country.
Raquin and
Ondrej Horak will compete in the doubles portion of the NCAA Tournament. The field consists of 32 doubles teams with 14 automatic bids and 18 at-large from across the country.
Raquin, who is ranked No. 39 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, received the automatic bid for Conference USA. The duo of Horak and Raquin are ranked No. 28 by the ITA and received the automatic bid for CUSA. Automatic bids are earned by being the highest rated individual/doubles pairing in each conference.
This will be the second time under Coach Borendame that a player will compete in singles at the NCAA Championship. The last time a MTSU player advanced pass the first round of the singles tournament was in 2003.
This will also be the second time under Coach Borendame that a doubles team will compete in doubles at the NCAA Championship. The last time a doubles pairing reached the second round of the doubles tournament was in 2009.
This will be the sixth time in program history that MTSU has sent a team/player to all three events, the last time was in 2009 under HC David McNamara.
